PIV measurements of fire induced flows

PIV measurements at a small-scale spill plume.

We are currently conducting PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) measurements of fire-induced flows on a small scale.

The aim of the investigations is to systematically compare classic PIV methods with new computer vision approaches to flow analysis. We want to evaluate the potential of data-driven image analysis methods for experimental fire research and investigate their applicability under realistic test conditions.

The work is being carried out in close cooperation with Ghent University and ZAG (Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute) and combines experimental flow measurement technology with modern methods of image processing and AI.

This is an exciting step towards more precise and efficient characterisation of fire-induced flows.
