Computational Civil Engineering

Chair of Computational Civil Engineering

The Chair of Computational Civil Engineering is mainly concerned with the research and development of new computer-aided models. The main application is the propagation of fire and smoke in buildings.

Our teaching is focussed on informatics and numerics. The main lectured offered by this chair are 'Informatics for Engineers' and 'Fire Simulations'. Additionally, we regularly offer workshops on the topics 'Data Analysis' and 'Raspberry Pi'.

Regarding our research, one aspect is the application of FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator) on HPC systems like JURECA and novel life safety analysis methods. Another aspect is the development of new simulation tools. This is for example the software ARTSS (Accelerator-based Real-Time Smoke Simulator) or PROPTI. Our research is conducted in close cooperation with the division 'Fire Dynamics' of the Forschungszentrum Jülich.
